April Rally Notes

The April Rally of the Kansas Twisters was held April 9, 10 & 11 at the Deer Creek Valley RV Park in Topeka, Kansas hosted by Bob & Diana Gay.  This is a new RV Park and is one of the nicest we have stayed in.  Topeka is also a nice place to visit as there was more to do (museums, farmers market, casinos, shopping) than we had time to take in all the activities.

Bob & Diana had a great rally planned with pot luck on Friday evening, continental breakfast on Saturday and Sunday, catered dinner on Saturday evening and plenty of free time to visit town.  Bob also had a LITTLE 14 pound cinnamon roll for breakfast that we ate on for several days.

There was not an official meeting as there were not any elected Officers present except the National Director.  Due to the death of Shirley Hogoboom the evening prior to the rally, Nancy suggested that after the meal Saturday evening everyone would take a moment and tell their fondest memory of Shirley.  It was a moving experience with every person sharing how much they had been touched by her. She will be missed very much.

The rally was attended by the following people:  Gay, J. Wright, Elkins, McCandless, Diehl, *Leiker, *McClelland, *Robinson, Cody, Linn, our new member Sinclaire, and guest/prospective member Johnson.  Everyone was reminded to keep a close eye on our web site for details of the May rally in El Dorado.

Respectfully submitted,

Nancy Wright      National Director

*Indicates camped elsewhere and drove in.

I would like to thank every one for the help and concerns you gave during my leg accident. It is getting better, but will be a long time healing. A special thanks goes out to Albert Hogoboom and Bob Gay.

For those of you going to Bowling Green have a good and safe trip.

All of you have a good and safe 4th of July.

Looking forward to seeing you in Aug at the Waters Edge RV Park in Vinita OK.

A message from President Herb Little:

Via phone today 3/23/09, Herb asked me to relay the message that their internet connection has not been working down at their campground in Texas so they haven't been able to check their email etc. for a long time.  BUT they expect to be returning to this area in a week or so and will catch up on everything then.

Herb says to remind you all about the first rally the weekend of April 10th at the Downstream Casino Resort in Quapaw, OK (SE corner of Kansas). Let Joe Wright know if you plan to be there. Check the web site for updates.

Word is that some of the members are back from the "tropics" already and others are going to be working their way back any day now. Sooooooo pretty soon all the Twisters will be back in Kansas just in time for our annual tornados.

Safe travels y'all!
Call Herb on his cell phone if you need him for anything.

Happy Holidays from the Robinsons

We have enjoyed our time as officers but are getting ready to turn it over to Herb and Janice.

We finish the year with 41 members. The new roster will be on the web site soon.

Barbara McClelland, the host for Olpe( Jan 3rd) needs a head count!!!!!  Please let her know SOON if you are going.

Larry and I will be in Houston so will not see you in Olpe. We hope and pray for Happy Holidays, a prosperous New Year and safe travel fo all of you.

Hello Kansas Twisters

What a great rally to end the 2008 season! Good crowd, fairly good weather (a little windy on Sat) and a good catered meal Saturday evening.

The three main items for our business meeting were the change to our by-laws, change to standing rules and election of officers for the 2009 year. These are all covered in the October minutes.

My congratulations and best wishes to the newly elected officers and my thanks to the outgoing officers for their service to the chapter and their assistance to me

Thanks again to all the 2008 Rally Hosts. Next years schedule is nearly complete and will be e-mailed; snail mailed and on the web site as soon as the secretary receives it.

It has been a great pleasure to be your president these past two years. This year has been a “piece of cake”. Last year was a little taxing due to the work and planning associated with being Six State Rally Volunteers in Sedalia, but it definitely was rewarding. I enjoyed both years and will soon hand the gavel to our new President, Herb Little

Our winter gathering will again in Olpe, KS (date to be announced soon) hope to see a lot of you there

Hello Kansas Twisters

We had a great small rally (10 coaches) in Guthrie. Our hosts Bus and Barbara McClelland did a great job and fed us well. Thanks to them.

I would like to remind everyone the club is providing a catered dinner at the Oct rally, but you need to get your reservations in by the 19th of Sept.

Also remember dues are due.

Larry and Pat Robinson

Hello Twisters

It appears our Sept 12/14 rally in Guthrie, OK will not have enough members present to conduct business (15 members needed). Our nominating committee was to present their slate of nominees for the 2009 season. The slate is as follows

President: Herb Little

Vice President/Rally Master: Albert Hogoboom

Secretary: Janice Clubine

Treasurer: Donna Snelling

National Director: Nancy Wright

Alternate National Director:  Carl Knight

Other nominees of course will be accepted from the floor at the meeting in Hutchinson October 4th.At this meeting we will also be voting on a proposed change in the by-laws.

The cost of fuel seems to be coming down some so I hope to see a good turnout for the Hutchinson Rally October 3/5 at the Fairgrounds. The rally schedule has been e-mailed and will be on the web site. We definitely need a quorum to conduct business so make your plans and reserve with the Hosts, Ron and Sharon Cody.

The hosts have asked that you get your reservations in by Sept 19th2008 for the rally and catered dinner.

I will also remind everyone that our dues are due Oct1 for the 2009 year.

I hear the 6 State Rally association is planning for a rally like no other in NLR.I hope all who are able to attend have a great time. Looking forward to seeing some of you in Guthrie and I hope many more in Hutchinson.

Hello Kansas Twisters

Great rally this past weekend at Waters Edge RV Park in Vinita OK. A small group but appeared all had a good time. We had 8 member coaches, 1 guest coach (Fred and Lou Kennedy, the South Central Area Vice President and wife) and 2 drive ins for Sat am.

A brief meeting was held, but without a quorum no business was conducted. Fred addressed the members present mostly highlighting the loss of membership and the need to recruit for FMCA.

I highlighted our Oct rally in Hutchinson with the need to have a quorum to conduct end of year business. We will have the election of officers for the 2009 rally season. We also need to vote on a proposed change to the bylaws.

The proposed change is to Article111 Section E  to change 90 days to 60 days. This will create a correct membership roster the secretary has to submit to FMCA before December 31st each year.

As required by Article V111 this is the prior notice required (at least 30 days) for a vote at a duly called meeting, To make this change it will need a 2/3 affirmative vote by members present.

Happy Independence Day to all. Hope it was a safe and enjoyable time.

Pat and I were not able to attend the Pineville rally. We were headed that direction, but about 14 miles from home we encountered a tire problem. Blowout! Other than the tire we had some electrical wire damage. Emergency Roadside Service was slow to respond, but within a couple hours we were on our way. After a couple weeks with family in Yates Center we decided to return to Hutchinson for new tires and to repair the damage to wiring. He cost of fuel played a part in our decision also. I figure this was a factor in others deciding not to attend. It was a very small turnout but I understand those attending had a great time.

We were saddened to hear of the passing of Bill Wass. Our thoughts and prayers go out to LaVeta and the family. We were unable to attend the funeral and give a big thank you to those Twisters that did.

There is no rally in July due to the holiday weekend and the FMCA 80th International Rally In St.Paul, Minn. July 14-17th. We know of several going and we wish them safe travel, good weather and hope they have an enjoyable convention.

Our August rally is shaping up nicely. Our hosts, Lawrence and Pam Noggle, are getting plans in order and will be providing rally information for our web site soon. Pat and I have been to this RV Resort and enjoyed our stay. We hope to see a lot of you there. Information on Waters Edge and directions are on the web site at current events.

Our Sept. Rally is in Guthrie, OK. Sept 12-14. This will be followed by the Six State Rally in North Little Rock Ark. The Six State Rally Assn and the City of North Little

Rock is planning a fun filled 5 days with good food and entertainment. We think you will be impressed.

Our final Rally for this year is Oct 10-12 in Hutchinson. The chapter has voted to provide A catered meal during this rally. The meal will probably be for Saturday evening. This meeting is one of our two (2) required business meetings so please plan to attend ifat all possible. We need a quorum to conduct business. Two main items of business will be the election of officers for 2009and the chapter has voted to vote on a change in our Bylaws. Article 111 3 E reads after 90 days membership is cancelled. We need to change this to 60 days.

See you in Okla. at Waters Edge

April 2008

What a great start for our 2008 rally year. Windy and cool, but I suppose fairly normal for April. We begin the year with 63 member coaches, so 25% attendance was pretty good. A good time was enjoyed by all. Our thanks again to the hosts Jim and Mary McDaniel.

Next rally weekend is May 9-11 at Spring Lake, Halstead KS. We will be electing the nominating committee at that time. This change is due to the cancellation of the July Rally. We need a quorum, so please try to attend. We will also be discussing if changes to our by-laws and standing rules are needed.

I will not be sending out a letter after the May rally as Pat and I will be on the road most of the time until after the Pineville rally in June

Get your reservations in early so the hosts and the campground can make their plans accordingly. See you at Spring Lake and Pineville.

Dear Twisters

Is winter ever going to end? The calendar says it will end soon so there is hope ahead. All of us who stayed in Kansas this winter are tired of shoveling snow, and those who went south sure picked a good time to go.

Well now it is only a few weeks until our first outing, so lets be getting our coaches ready to go. Our first rally, April 11-13 at 4 Seasons Acres Abilene is shaping up, our hosts Jim and Mary McDaniel are planning for a great weekend. We usually have one of our largest rallies in April so get your reservations in soon so they can finalize their plans. A schedule for the rally will be posted on the website soon and e-mailed out. In the meantime there is information about the 4 Seasons RV Park in the current events link

There will be several items of business to discuss, so I expect our first business meeting to be a little longer than usual. One thing will be the need to decide when we will elect our nominating committee because of the July Rally cancellation. Our standing rules for this will need to be altered

Pat and I have had a good winter and hope each of you had the same. We are anxious to see everyone again. It seems like it’s been a long time since our last rally

See you in Abilene

Greetings Twisters.

What a great turnout we had for our mid-winter dinner gathering. We has 46 persons present  22 coaches represented 42 member and 4 guests. We begin 2008 with 63 member coaches. Thanks to Bus and Barbara McClelland for hosting a wonderful meal at the Olpe Chicken House. An enjoyable afternoon was had by all attending. Also had several comments about how nice the weather was compared to our last gathering in Emporia in Jan 07.

Because of the timing the 4th of July holiday and FMCA's 80th International Convention July14-17th we will NOT have a July Rally this year. This will necessitate the alteration of our standing rule #6 that states our nominating committee will be elected at the July annual meeting. The membership will need to decide when to do this.

Our 1st 2008 rally at 4 SeasonsRV Acres, Abilene, is April 11-13. Mark your calendars and make your reservations early so our hosts can plan accordingly. Our rally schedule on the website is correct except for the July18-20 which has been canceled. Herb Little, VP and Rally Master will soon be providing me with host updates, this will be forwarded to Loretta Marlowe to update the website

Now for the news that several of you have asked about....Just yesterday I received from the 6-state Rally Assn. a check for $5,451.54.

What a surprise.I did not expect it until mid March or later. Also the amount is a surprise, because like many of us who worked the Sedalia rally, it seemed smaller than usual. Again my sincerest thanks to all volunteers who gave their time. Now the membership has the responsibility of deciding how to use these proceeds.

See you all in April.   Travel Safely             Larry Robinson

END OF 2007

Now that our 2007 Rally season has ended,I've had time to reflect, and feel we had a good year.Beginning in January and again in April with snow, then finishing in October with rain and cool weather, but good weather in between. We had large Rallies in Hutchinson and Sedalia and a real small one in Oakley and others near 20/25 coaches. All the hosts had arranged for enjoyable weekends Thanks to each.

My thanks, for all the help I've received, to all the officers and to all the volunteers who worked the 6-state rally. We had good participation, worked lots of hours and received many words of appreciation. I don't know  if the rally made a profit. I will probably be notified yet this month.

Now I guess its time to winterize our coaches or possibly make plans to go South.

The 2008 Rally sites are scheduled and looks like another good year, but a few hosts are needed. Being a host is a little work but can be real  rewarding.

I'm looking forward to working with your 2008 officers. I know they will do whatever is necessary for the club to have another good year.

Here's wishing a safe-Happy Holiday Season to all  and hope to see a lot of you in January at Olpe.

The August rally at Oakley was small but mighty. The hosts, Gary & Carol Allen, did a great job to show everyone a good time. The numbers were few but the good time was mighty. Several headed on northwest to the Redmond rally.

Sedalia is getting close. Hope you are all looking forward to a good time.
I am sure depending on all of you who have volunteered to help. If for some reason you are not going to be able to volunteer I need to know soon.

October will be here before we know it. Please plan on attending the rally October 12-14 in Louisberg, KS. as that is the election of officers. Let the host, Dick & Bea Hadsall, know you plan to be there.

What a start to our 2007 Rally Season we had April 13th/ 15th. All 4 seasons in 3 days, wind, rain, snow, and finally a beautiful sunny Saturday and Sunday. Rally hosts Pat Robinson and Abby Murray set up an enjoyable tour of the Underground Salt Museum and a great pot luck dinner with a 6th Birthday cake for our chapter. Many attending were able to take in the Mennonite Relief Sale for good food and shopping.(Apparently the weather didn't hurt them either, they raised $18,000.00 more than last year.)

We had 37 coaches present 2 were guests 3 couples in 5th wheels were guests of the Hildebrands and Nussers and joined the museum tour. 3 couples were in without their coaches so we had a very good showing.

I just returned from Sedalia Mo. where the Hadsalls , Joe Wrights and I helped with the Volunteer planning for the Six State Rally to be held in Sedalia, Mo. Sept 25th/28th 2007. Our chapter is(1) one of (7) seven chapters to be volunteer hosts. We were asked to bring 28 coaches. Each coach is asked to provide 24 hours of service. Our duties will be Parking and Trams. The parking will be the majority of our duties. The parking will be all before the Rally begins on the 25th.

Dick Hadsall, J. Wright and I will be working the 19th (Wed)

We need 4 ( we have 3 committed at this time) coaches to come in on Wed Sept 19th to begin work Thurs Sept 20th, 13 (we have 4 committed at this time) more to come in Thurs Sept 20th, to work the next day (Fri.) Tthe rest( none committed at this time) to arrive on the Fri 21st to begin work the Sat 22nd.

Sat., Sun., and Mon. will be our busiest days in parking. Then some of us will work with the Trams.

A Volunteer dinner is scheduled for Sunday evening.

I have had commitments from 12 coaches already. Please contact me if you will help with this project. I have to provide a list of volunteers to FMCA by July 15th.

Because of our duties with the parking I was able to select where we will be parked in the volunteer parking area. We have 28 reserved spaces that are all side by side with 4 coaches to each post,. We will have full hookups with 30 amp ,water and sewer. Also we will have a nice area to gather ,rest or eat.

As Volunteers we will have to register for the rally before July 15th. DO NOT REGISTER as a volunteer. Our packets will come as if we were in general parking. We will be given a volunteer parking card on arrival

If you arrive earlier than scheduled you will be charged $15.00 a day Otherwise all we will pay is the regular rally fee.

Thanks in advance for your help with this project.

Please let me know as soon as possible if and for when you can volunteer. After 28 coaches have committed I will start a stand by list. If you have any questions please get in touch with me.

Don't forget to let our hosts know early if you are attending our rallies. I believe the May rally camp spaces not filled were released. Contact Bob Hermreck for more information.

The June rally information has been e-mailed and snail mailed and will be on the web site soon.

Give our Hosts the courtesy of reserving early so they can plan accordingly.

Regards to all,

Larry

Greetings Twisters                                                                                        March 2007

It appears that winter is nearly over. I hope no one had any long power outages or any other severe damage. With winter behind us (or almost) it's time to think about our rally season and getting our rigs cleaned and restocked.

We had a successful winter dinner at Bruffs in Emporia (except for the snow storm we had to drive home in). We had 17 member coaches represented and one guest.

The winter Texans also had an enjoyable afternoon and evening south of the border with about a dozen persons present.

Our rally season has shaped up well, thanks to the efforts of our vice-president and rally master, Dick Hadsall.

The first rally is just barely a month away in Hutchinson at the KS State Fairgrounds

Pat Robinson and Abby Murray have lined up an exciting weekend. A tour of the Underground Salt Museums is scheduled and of course the Food and other activities of the Mennonite Relief Sale

Also at our April meeting we will be voting on a new Alternate National Director (The nominating committee is working on that). David Marlowe has given us his resignation.

In May we go to Wichita for the last weekend of the River Festival. Hosts are Hermrecks and P Walkers.

Check our web site for these and the rest of our rally schedule. Mark you calendars and make plans to attend. Please give our hosts a call or e-mail as early as you can so they are able to make their plans.

We have been invited to be one of the Volunteer Host Chapters at the Six State Rally in Sedalia, MO. in late September. This gives us the opportunity to meet new people, attend seminars and see some great entertainment. Also if it’s a financial success we will benefit financially.

Loretta Marlowe has planned a caravan to FMCA's 78th International Convention in Redmond Oregon. The trip will leave from Oakley following our Aug 3/5 rally. Contact Loretta for further details.

Reservations are being received by our hosts for the April 13/15 Rally and it appears we will have a GOOD turnout.

Let’s begin the Rally Season with FUN, FRIENDSHIP, FOOD and the FMCA way.

Drive Safe!

Larry Robinson

Happy holidays to all

As you receive this between Christmas and New Years I am a little bit late

Pat and I are leaving for Houston the day after Christmas. We'll be returning a few days after New Years.

Our Winter Dinner Meeting is Jan 20th at Bruffs Steak House in Emporia, Kansas. Menu and directions are on our web page at www.kansastwisters.net

Hope we have a good turnout.

Also note our rally schedule for 2007. Looks like a fun and exciting year. In September at Sedalia we will be one of the volunteer host Chapters.  Mark this on your calendar, as the Six State Rallies offer good seminars and entertainment.

Our coordinator of the profile book, Loretta Marlowe, has resigned from this position. She will have the large profile book for $15.00, the CD for $1.00 for delivery Jan 20th at Emporia. You can reach her at lorettam@pngusa.net or call her. Please contact her and place your orders.  We will then need a volunteer to continue our directory.

I want to thank all who gave me support and encouraging words when I became your president

I'm hoping we'll have a Rally Season filled with good times

See you in Emporia

Larry Robinson

My Kansas Twister friends,

Please join me in congratulating the 2007 officers for the Kansas Twisters:

Larry Robinson our new President, Dick Hadsall staying on as Vice
President/Rally Master, Abby Murray serving again as Secretary, Bonnie
McCandless returning as Treasurer, Joe Wright as National Director and David
Marlow as Alternate National Director. These are all fine hard working
people and with our 2007 Rally Schedule we should have a super year of fun
and fellowship.

You have probably noticed that some of these names are new and were not on
the ballots I recently mailed you. I need to apologize to you for this mix
up. At the October Rally in Grove, Oklahoma a point of order from the floor
successfully challenged the 2006 election by mail. As a result the whole
process was restarted with the election of a new Nominating Committee and
the formation of a new slate of officers. The resulting vote on Saturday
night elected the Officers I have asked you to congratulate. I accept full
responsibility for the technical error that resulted in the rejection of the
election of officers by mail. As a result of my mistake I have reimbursed
the Kansas Twisters Treasury the $89.08 I spent printing and mailing the
ballots. Please also accept my apology for raising and dashing your
expectations to participate in the election of officers even if you could
not attend the annual rally. Maybe next year we will do that and do it
without a challenge.

Anyway, I am really looking forward to seeing you in Texas this winter or
next year at the scheduled Twister rallies. Please stop by the Tour for a
sip of something cold and to share travel experiences. It has been a
pleasure being your President this past year and Pearl and I look forward to
seeing you all soon.

May you ride in the cup of God's hand as you travel this year.

Sincerely,

Bill Speer

Kansas Twisters Vote by Mail 2006 Procedures

1. At the September meeting the Nominating Committee will present to a quorum of members a slate of officers. The Nominating Committee will endeavor to recruit at least one nominee for each position prescribed in the Twister's by-laws.

2. After a motion and second to accept the slate of officers as presented the President will call for discussion to include nominations from the floor. After motions to add or delete names to or from the slate there will be a call for a vote and the slate as amended will be voted by the members.

3. The final slate approved by the membership will be made into a ballot and copies will be mailed to the members with one ballot for each adult member owner of a coach as prescribed in Twister by-laws. The voting letter will include ballots, instructions, and a pre-paid addressed envelope in which the completed ballots can be mailed to the chair of the nominating committee.

4. The pre-paid envelope will be numbered with the member number from a Twister roster. When the Nominating Committee Chair receives an envelope he/she will check the number on the roster. The chair will open the envelope and deposit the enclosed ballots in a ballot box to be counted at the October meeting.

5. At the October meeting the President will call for those who have not voted by mail to cast their ballots. The Chair of the Nominating Committee will verify that no ballot was received from the members and then present them with ballots. After the ballots are completed and put in the ballot box the President will call for a count and the Nominating committee will retire to an area where they will tabulate the votes and present the results to the membership a list of officers for the coming year.

6. In the case of a tie the Senior 2006 Officer not involved in the tie will call for a vote from the floor by show of hands to determine a winner for the office. All members will vote by show of hand to include the Officer with the gavel. The winner of this vote will be seated as the winner of the club office.

7. Any disputes on the vote will be heard as motions from the floor and settled in accordance with Robert's Rules of Order.

Pearl and I took our new Winnebago Tour to the Twister pre-caravan rally at      Strafford, Missouri and had a wonderful time. Rod and Wanda Ryel hosted a fun gathering and we met some new friends and made some new ones. Joining the Twisters for their first rally were John and Cindi Van Hengel. They drive a classic American   Eagle that John has put in show condition. They are great people and you will enjoy them at our rallies. Every morning we met at the "Gazebo" for coffee and doughnuts. Loretta Marlowe brought a few pastries left from the Anniversary Rally at Lawrence and we ate those the first day. Saturday Pearl and I held an open house at our Tour and crammed 20 people in the rig with wine and cheese making the close quarters very comfy. We all got a chance to sample the sights and restaurants of Springfield (a suburb of Strafford) and even visited the Pro Bass Center.     Springfield was a great sight with something for everyone. On Sunday morning we said "Bon Voyage' to the caravan headed to Charlotte

Our next rally is in Hays at the Ellis County fairgrounds to participate in the       Midwest Duetsche Oktoberfest on September 15-17. We have changed the church tour to Friday morning but the Brewery Dinner is still Thursday night. I can't tell you in this short space how hospitable the Hays Chamber of Commerce and       Convention and Visitors Bureau has been. If you come early to this rally you will have a ton of things to do and will have a very good time, and learn a lot too! Friday night we will have a pot-luck dinner in an air conditioned building. After dinner we will have a business meeting. To make this easier to swallow, our host Leo       Dorzweiler will have the beer bar open. By the way, if you have traditional German clothes or even a hat please bring it along and join in the fun and celebrations on Saturday and Sunday.

We will deal with the following business at the Hays Rally:

1) We will approve the slate of officers for the 2006-7 year.

2) We will review the 2006-7 Rally Schedule. An issue that will come to the floor will be Rule #3 of the Twister's Standing Rules which states that rallies will be the first full weekend in the odd months (May, July, and September) and the second full weekend of the even months (April, June, August, and October). Our proposed schedule for 2007 does not satisfy this rule and we need to deal with this problem.

3) Members have asked that we re visit and discuss the decision by the membership at the July rally to change the Standing Rules to allow the Treasurer to pay bills  submitted by rally hosts and club officers as received without getting approval for payment by the membership at a business meeting.

That's what is going on. If you have a nomination for the positions of President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, National Director or Alternate National        Director please give them to Past President Richard Vester at rbago@sbcglobal.net.

See you at the next rally,   Bill

Twisters Friends:

We are one month away from The Midwest Duetsche Oktoberfest and our
September 15-17 Rally.  I am getting excited about it!

I just got back from a visit to the Ellis County Fair Grounds and found that
they have installed 23 camp ground type electric boxes with 50/30/20 amp
plugs.  Each plug is on a separate breaker so we can put rigs requiring 50
and 30 amps on the same box.  They also have 5 single 50 amp boxes on one
side of the parking area but these don't have a circuit breaker on the box
so I'll use those as a last resort.  There is good water at the fairgrounds
so you can fill up when you get there.  I'm sorry but there is not a dump
station on the grounds.  You will have to carry the gray and black water to
a dump station on I-70 or pay to dump in town at the local RV Park.

Early Bird activities are numerous and you are free to do what ever you want
the days before the rally starts on Friday evening with a Pot Luck Supper.
There will be a tour of three local old German Catholic Churches to include
the "Cathedral of the Plains" in Victoria.  The tour begins at 8 am Friday
morning.  The Hays Convention and Visitors Bureau will provide a 12
passenger bus and guides will meet us at the churches.  If we fill the bus
you can follow in your car.  I will also make us reservations at the local
brewery and restaurant for Thursday night.  It is famous for great food and
great local beer.

So far I have reservations from the following people with their power
requirements: Blacklock, McDiffett 30a, Leiker 50a, Hermreck 50a, Elkins
30a, Vester 50a, Maneth 50a.

I'd like your reservations at wlspeer@cox.net

 Happy trails and following winds,

Bill

It was just five short years ago when Kitty and I went to Newton, Kansas immediately following the 26th Winter FMCA International Convention in Oklahoma City to hold an organizational meeting to consider forming anew FMCA chapter in Kansas. Larry and Lee Schwart had made arrangements for a meeting room and also camping at the Harvey County Park.

We had a dinner meeting Saturday evening April 7, 2001 in the back room at CJs Pancake House there in Newton. You were an enthusiastic group. I reviewed the process and the benefits of having a chapter. My presentation was designed to be informative and a soft sell. Those that were there had already made up their minds and the train was ready to get out of the station, you couldn't wait to sign your name on the dotted line.

There were many questions that had to be answered so the required chapter bylaws could be formulated. Several chapter names were on the floor for consideration with the attendees pretty much divided on the selection. I suggested that some dynamic be included in the name. Well, consideration of "Sunflower" and other key words that complimented "Kansas" were replaced, and the name Kansas Twister was overwhelmingly approved. The energy level of your chapter has lived up to its name.

All of the required business had not been completed with some open issues still remaining to complete the bylaws and get the charter request completed to submit to FMCA. A couple of families also still needed to sign up, as they were not in attendance, to put the charter membership over the twenty required. Therefore a mini rally was scheduled for the last weekend in April.

The organizing families that had returned positive responses to the chapter formation were: Ross E Ailslieger, Walter & Carolyn Bennett, Linn & Mary Blankinship, E Blaine & Elizabeth Bowlin, Robert A & Mary Lee Coloney, Buddy E & Myrna J Fair, Eldon & Paula Hamm, Albert & Shirley Hogoboom, Richard & Bea Hudsall, Phil & Marilyn Kauffman, Doug & Charlene Lloyd, Myron Maclaskey, John & Carole Middleton, Robert & Leta Morgan, Don & Abby Murray, Larry & Patricia Robinson, Larry & Lea Schwart, Earl S & Mary J Smith, Patricia Stotler, Richard & Carol Vester, Charles & Roberta Yaverski.

Abby Murray and her service dog Rivers took minutes. The Murrays and Schwarts had previously assisted with the 26th Six-State Rally held at the Kansas State Fairgrounds in 1999.

You had elected Richard Vester, President; Larry Schwart, Vice President; Abby Murray, Secretary; and Shirley Hogoboom, Treasurer at the initial meeting. A National Director was still to be elected.

FMCA responded favorably and your charter was dated April 7, 2001. The KANSAS TWISTER chapter, the 40th chapter in FMCA's South Central Area, was born and the rest is history.

Kitty and I returned to attend your Pineville, Missouri rally on the Big Elk River the summer of 2002. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and made new friends. The highlight was kayaking down the river and Kitty perfected traversing the rapids stern first. Fun was had by all.

It was a satisfying accomplishment and privilege to have assisted in the organization of the Kansas Twisters. Congratulations on your 5th Anniversary. Keep your high energy enthusiasm going!

LETTER FROM THE FIRST PRESIDENT, RICHARD VESTER

In response to a letter that we received from FMCA National, we were asked if we would be interested in joining a new FMCA Chapter in Kansas, and if so, would we be interested in serving as an officer. I believe my response was that I would help.

Jim Ammenheuser was our Regional VP at that time and with pressure from Larry and Lea Schwart, and Don and Abby Murray a meeting was set up in Newton, Kansas for anyone interested in forming a new FMCA Chapter.

We invited Phil & Marilyn Kauffman to go with us to the lunch meeting. Jim Ammenheuser discussed the value of belonging to a FMCA Chapter. All of the people that attended agreed, (I believe we needed at least 20 units to form a chapter) and first order of business was to select a name. Several names were suggested but the Twisters won out in the vote. (Some folks would think of our chapter as dancers out of the 60's and others would relate the name to Kansas weather.)

Next order of business was getting volunteers for the Chapter officers. Don Murray held up Abby's hand for secretary, Shirley Hogoboom volunteered for treasurer, Larry Schwart was vice president and rally master and after what seemed to me like a long pause for a volunteer for president, I said I would do it and we were all elected!

Our first Rally to get organized was set up in May at the Harvey County East campground by Larry & Lea Schwart. We had our first bean bag baseball game at this Rally and it helped to break the ice and really get acquainted.

I do not recall any major disagreements involving our chapter members. If someone's feelings were hurt, for what ever reason, the situations were resolved, and we carried on to enjoy our group and have a great time. We had discussions on name tags, vests, jackets, banner, rally dates, cups, glasses, shirts, etc. and it all worked out great!

Richard Vester, President

President's Corner June 2006

The Pineville rally hosted by Leon & Nancy May and Bill & Ruth Scranton was
very relaxing and offered a wide variety of fun activities to enjoy from
river floating and fishing to shopping in the near by towns. Big Elk
Campground was quiet and clean and discounted our stay. Their no alcohol
policy makes for a very family oriented and orderly camping experience. The
following Twisters attended the rally: Ron & Sharon Cody, Jim & Mary
McDaniel, Paul & Teddy Maneth, Don & Shirley McDiffett, Brad & Alice Elkins,
Wayne & Bonnie McCandless, Lawrence & Pam Noggle, and Rod & Wanda Ryel. It
was hotter than heck and the humidity was high but we made the best of it by
holing up in our rigs during mid-day or going shopping. The mornings and
evenings were pleasant and we ate breakfast and dinner under the trees. The
meals were followed by good "bull sessions" we all got to deepen our
friendships. That is what this is really all about, isn't it?

Our next rally is at the Lawrence, Kansas KOA July 7, 8 & 9. Dave and
Loretta Marlowe have worked hard to make our 5th Anniversary rally a
memorable event. The KOA let us down on the reservation business and we are
going to miss some good friends because they could not get in to the camp
ground. Despite that nasty curve ball the Marlowes have put a lot of effort
into the event and we will have a good time. I hope you can be there.

Because of what has happened to us at Lawrence I have reviewed the 2007
rally schedule with a point to make sure we have rally points in Kansas for
shorter trips and sites that can accept at least 50 units. At Pineville I
got a lot of good ideas and I will share those at the Lawrence rally and
hustle to finalize the schedule by September. I'll need hosts but that is
easy and I'll help and teach you how to do it. Kansas Twisters are
flexible, cooperative, and are willing to share the work so rallies are
fairly easy to host. Our motto could be "Semper Gumby" (always flexible).
If you have a rally idea call me 785-210-7141 and I'll tell you what I have
and you can share your ideas.

Well, that is what's up. Until we meet again I hope you have happy trails
and following winds,

Bill

May, 2006

The Eureka Rally hosted by Albert and Shirley Hogoboom was a lot of fun.
There were 21 family members parked and 5 others drove in for the Saturday
dinner at the Copper Kettle. The horse races were a little sloppy but they
were fun to watch. A great moment was when the Twisters started a
spontaneous fund raiser for Smart Effort. This horse was the only survivor
of the stable fire in February that claimed 43 horses. With a fun "Texas
Hold 'em" game and generous donations we gave nearly $200 to his owner Deb
Boller to help with the Vet bills for his burns. I could not have been more
proud of the Twisters.

We have responded to a request to provide door prizes for the 6-State Rally
September 26-30. I sent two Twister mugs and other prizes left over from
the rally at Harrah's. We also sent 25-30 Afghans for kids in distress made
by Pam Noggle. Both shipments were received with great thanks from the
6-State volunteers.

A salute goes to Wayne and Bonnie McCandless who brought 5 new members into
the Twisters at the Monaco Rally in Hutchinson. I guess these folks saw how
neat Bonnie and Wayne were and how well Bob & Jan Erickson's ran the rally
and had to join us. Good job! We are at 103 unit members by my count.
Hooahh!

You have to hurry and make your reservations for the 5th Anniversary Rally
in Lawrence July 7-9. We will have a great time and the only fees will be
for your camping. Several of the new members will be there and you can help
welcome them.

At the Anniversary rally I will appoint the 2006-2007 nominating committee.
I have some Twisters in mind for this committee but if you want to be on it
contact me. I want a slate approved at the August meeting and this year I
plan to have members vote by mail with the results presented at the October
meeting.

Well, that is what's up. Until we meet again I hope you have happy trails
and following winds,

Bill

Date line: 1:00 PM 9 February, 2006 Mercedes, Texas
Kansas Twister Winter Texans Cruise the Rio Grande

At 1:00pm all the Kansas Twisters “Winter Texans” assembled at Walt and Carolyn Bennett’s for our Rio Grande Riverboat cruise. Present for the cruise arranged by Twisters Ken and Pat Claycamp, were fellow Twisters Walt and Carolyn Bennett, Ron and Nancy Herberholtz, Ray and Ann Barber, and President Bill Speer and his wife Pearl. Also in attendance were friends of the attendees who rounded out the boatload needed for the cruise.

Ken and Pat led a caravan south and west out of Weslaco, Texas through the very rich and productive Rio Grande Valley farmland. We drove through miles of fields full of cabbage, carrots, tomatoes, beets, sugar cane and citrus orchards. We arrived at the River Side Club, south of Mission, Texas, at 2:15 and boarded the River Side Dreamer with Captain Johnny Hart at the helm. Beer, soft drinks and snacks made the narrated cruise relaxed and fun. We cruised the river from the Anzulduas Dam north and west past Bentsen Park viewing the wild life and looking at the parks and camps along both sides of the river.

After the trip we sat down in the River Side Club for a generous western dinner and drinks. Some of us took the opportunity to dance to the country band as we waited for the dinner. After dinner President Bill Speer led a warm applause to thank the Claycamps for arranging the adventure. The door prize was won by Robert Joy a friend of the Bennett’s from Illinois. It was a great day that warmed us all with the company of fellow Twisters and new friends.

January 2006

January 14, 2006 the Kansas Twisters rallied together for dinner at the Double D Cafe in El Dorado. (This was not an official meeting.) Edith Leiker was the host and did a wonderful job for the 62 attendees.

After a fine meal, our new president Bill Speer introduced all the other new officers for 2006: Dick Hadsall -vice president, Wanda Ryel -secretary, Bonnie McCandless -treasurer, Joe Wright -ntl.director, and Larry Noggle -alt.ntl.director.

Then Bill presented plaques of appreciation to last year's officers: Joe Wright -pres, Herb Little -vice pres, Edith Leiker -secretary, Bob Erickson -treasurer, and Larry Schwart -ntl.director. A special recognition & plaque was presented to Loretta Marlowe for her great work on our member directory books & cds, caravan leadership, and our web site (www.kansastwisters.net).

New members Chuck & Mary Perrier and Ron & Sharon Cody, and guests Linda Riggs and Janice Chivims were welcomed. The group sang "Happy Birthday" to Bonnie McCandless. Dick Hadsall reminded everyone planning to attend a rally to contact the host just as soon as possible, to help the hosts in making reservations and arrangements.

Bill went over the 2006 Rally Schedule, noting a change of date to April 7-9, for the Topeka casino rally. He announced he had Twister "attachment shields" (for the FMCA # plates) for sale at $17.50 and also 2 used ones at $8.00 each. Drawings were then held for a huge number of prizes donated by : Granite City Brewery & Restaurant, Flint HIlls RV, Adventure RV, and 4 Seasons RV.

December 2005

Dear Kansas Twisters,

First we want to thank all of you for blessing us with your friendship. Our greatest gift this year has been the new friends we have made, continuing friendships and the moments we have shared. Thank you for all you have given us this year and the wonderful collection of memories you have helped us build. I was flattered that you elected me Chapter President and I will do my best to make our year fun. Pearl and I will be at the 14 January dinner and then travel south to attend the 9 February Snowbird Twister rally in Rio Grande City. Then it is all fun and sun until we get the report that the last frost in Kansas has occurred!

We hope that this Christmas Season finds you healthy and happy. This has been a very eventful year for the Speers. Pearl Retired from her job with the Army in June and we immediately started the rest of our lives by getting into our motor home and heading north to Canada and Alaska. We went on a caravan sponsored by Winnebago Industries and were accompanied by 20 very congenial and fun couples. We got to drive through some very beautiful country and were able to see wildlife in their natural world. We got to go deep sea fishing out among the whales. It was truly a trip of a lifetime. Be careful when we see you again or we will show you our pictures. On our way back we visited Bill's brother Tom in Seattle for several fun days. We also spent a few days in Caldwell, Idaho with our friends Rolly and Vicky Morrison.

We then hurried home for the birth of our 7th grandchild, Casey and Becky's son Griffin William Speer. He has been a great baby to have around and we are enjoying rocking and playing and then giving him back to his parents. Grand parenting is still a great treat.

In late September we were off again to join friends at the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta for 2 weeks. It is had to describe what a sight it is to see 900 or more hot air balloons in the air at the same time.
Quiet the spectacle! We had a great time and met many more RV friends.

For Thanksgiving we met Chuck and Kim and their 2 boys and Casey and his family in Guthrie for a family Thanksgiving with my Mom and the Griffins. After that we went to Arkansas to spend a couple days with Chuck and visit friends.

We plan to spend Christmas and New Years with Lou and his family in Wichita and then head South in search for sunshine and restful places.

Well, as you have guessed by now, our Christmas letters are turning into travel logs. We are living our dream of seeing the country in the luxury of our own home in the motor home. This is truly a wonderful land and we are very proud to be Americans!

We wish you a very merry Christmas and hope your New Year is filled with love and good times.

Bill and Pearl

Hey Twisters!

I just got a letter from FMCA South Central Area V.P. Tony Innocenti that says the Kansas Twisters captured 2nd place in the chapter web site competition. I have not figured out yet who personally deserves recognition for maintaining the web site but I do know that a lot of you contributed to the effort. To all of you, "thanks a million"! See you at the January 14th or February 9th rallies.

Happy trails to you,

Bill   President

Portions of an email from President Bill Speer

Dear Twister Friends,

I have collected all the club records and stuff from Vice President Dick Hadsall and I have been reading and filing stuff like crazy.
Did you know that the FMCA bylaws have guidelines for setting up a receiving line? Wow! They must have different rallies than we have. I plan to make
our rallies fun and relaxing and promise you a good time at each and every one without a receiving line.

Happy trails to you and proud to be President of the Kansas Twisters chapter of FMCA.

KANSAS TWISTERS

Family Motor Coach Association

October 17, 2005

The Kansas Twisters held their October rally at Floral Hall in Coffeyville, Kansas October 7-9, 2005.  Please see the Secretaries report mailed previously for the detailed information.

Please welcome Terry & Ann Headrick of Salina, KS and Don & Shirley McDiffett of Alta Vista, KS to the TWISTERS.  Each of these new members will bring something SPECIAL to our chapter and it is great to make new friends as we travel with our group.

Check www.kansastwisters.net for the latest Chapter information.  There is even a FOR SALE section so we can sell unwanted items or look for SPECIAL deals.  This service is FREE to our Twister members.

Elections were held at the October rally at Coffeyville, KS(10/7/2005 – 10/9/2005).  I want to THANK all the Officers and Special Position people that served for the past 2 years.  The Chapter grew and was able to visit a lot of GREAT places due to their efforts.  Each person contributed in his or her own way and was able to help keep the Chapter strong.

I want WELCOME our new Officers and assure them I will do everything possible to help in any way possible.  I know that Bill, Dick, Wanda, Bonnie and Lawrence have a lot of new things they want to do and new ideas are always welcome.  They will need your help and assistance, just as I did while I was President.  I want to reprint a paragraph from 1 of my letters because it it so true and something I believe so strongly.

“One of the GREAT things about an organization like ours is the fun and fellowship we all enjoy.  These things DO come at a cost though.  This base cost is minimal as we only pay $10.00 a year – BUT - what is NEEDED though is the “cost of involvement”.  Taking an Officers position or volunteering as a Host for a rally is really part of OUR DUES to have a GREAT Chapter. PLEASE GET INVOLVED – do your part to help build the Chapter or assist those that DO take part.  You will really have a LOT of fun and ALWAYS get MUCH MORE than you give.”

We have completed the rallies for 2005.  I hope each of you had fun and many happy memories from this year. The  2006 schedule is on the Twister web site and was e-mailed/mailed to each of you.  WE PLAN ON HAVING A LOT MORE FUN.  Dick Hadsall is asking for ideas for the 2007 rally season.  Some places are SOLD OUT already.  Give him any help you can by letting him know where you want to go.

I have MANY pleasant memories from my 2 years as President.  I THANK each of you for the cooperation and help you have given me.  I’ve enjoyed the rallies and travels we’ve been able to be present at. Hope to see you at one of the future rallies.

Have a Safe and Joyful Holiday Season,   See you in the Spring,

Joe & Nancy Wright

September 9, 2005

The Kansas Twisters held their August meeting at Pioneer Village Campgrounds – Minden NE (8/5/05-8/7/05).  We had several days to tour the village – and even taking 4 hours a day for 3 days we didn’t have time to see everything. The parade to welcome a wounded young lady back from Iraq was great and everyone seemed to enjoy the activities.  The caravan on to Minot, North Dakota was great with everything arranged by Loretta Marlowe.  We had 4 new members join the Chapter during August.

Please welcome Richard & Norma Aubin of Mission, KS,  Ron & Sharon Cody  of Topeka, KS, Jack & Delores Maxton of Scammon, KS and Bill & Wilma Tait of Gardner, KS to the TWISTERS.  Each of these new members will bring something SPECIAL to our group.  One of these couples drove their motor coach to Minot, North Dakota and back on used cooking oil at a cost of .38 cents a gallon.

The September Rally is at Dodge City, next weekend (9/9-11/05) You need to reserve your space NOW and notify Jan Erickson if you plan to attend.  Check www.kansastwisters.net for more detail and the latest information.  Jan has a GREAT time planned for all of us.

The October rally is at Coffeyville, KS(10/7/2005 – 10/9/2005).  Information is being placed on the web and mailed separately.  Please e-mail or call me if you plan on going so I can have a count for meal preparation.  Remember this is the LAST meeting for this year.

PLEASE NOTE: The nominating committee has requested that you send any names for a Chapter Office to them.  You may call or e-mail any of the members Abby Murray, Dick Hadsall, Dave Marlowe & {(Alt) Shirley Hogoboom}  Their goal is to get at least 2 names for each office.  PLEASE help them with their goal.    The annual election of Kansas Twister Officers will be at the October Rally in Coffeyville, Kansas. Please plan on being  there.

We have completed the rally schedule for 2006.  The schedule will be on the Twister web site and e-mailed/mailed to each of you soon.  WE PLAN ON HAVING A LOT OF FUN.

We only have 2 Twister rallies left in 2005.  If you have not attended a rally this year –the Dodge City rally will be fun with Hollywood stars from Gunsmoke and a lot of fun activities planned.  Coffeyville will have the reenactment of the raid from the Dalton gang, German music & dancers and a town full of street vendors.  Of course the best activity is meeting with your Twister friends.  Check our web site (www.kansastwisters.net) for more information.

Hope to see you at one of these rallies,

Joe & Nancy Wright

PS:  The 2006 Dues need to be sent to Jan Erickson – Treasurer if you plan on remaining in the Chapter.

Come on out and join in with your friends at a great place to have fun.  The camping fees are very low ($16.61 per night) and you will only pay for what you want to see or do.

I delayed this letter until I could report some information on Janice Little.  She has been moved from the hospital to a rehab facility.  She spent 2 ½ weeks in intensive care and words like “Miracle” or “1 in a Million” are used by the doctors quite a bit.  Jan is convinced that the prayers and thoughts from the Twisters are one of the prime reasons she pulled through.  Herb asked that I pass on the “Thanks” each of you so richly deserve.  They request that visits wait for awhile as Jan still has a long way to go.  Please send letters or cards, not flowers.  Prayers & good thoughts are always appreciated and needed.

The August Rally is at the Pioneer Village in Minden, Nebraska – You need to reserve your space NOW and notify Loretta Marlowe or Bob Finley if you plan to attend.  Check www.kansastwisters.net for more detail and the latest information.  There will be a short meeting on Saturday at 9:30 AM for those planning to drive in.  The trip on to North Dakota for the International rally looks like it will be fun also.  A lot of places to visit and have fun with friends.

We held a White Elephant auction for the Flower Fund on Saturday afternoon. The income from the auction was $311.75.I am hoping we don’t have anyone get sick or need flowers. It would be great if we didn’t have to use any of the funds in the next year.

The Kansas Twisters (home crowd) luncheon was held this last Saturday (1/29/05) at the Golden Corral in Emporia. There were 20 Families present even though the weather (winter storm warnings with snow and ice on the ground) didn’t cooperate at all.Brad and Alice Elkins were great hosts and had contacted the Chamber of Commerce for “goodie bags” as well as making arrangements for the location.Everyone seemed to have a good time and enjoyed the visiting with friends. Most are ready for spring and the renewal of the rally season.

It seems like our Kansas Twister’s have had their share of illness this winter season. We wish each and every one a speedy recovery and will keep them in our prayers and thoughts.I would like to remind everyone- IF you know of someone ill or in the hospital – please let our Flowers & Cards person (Jan Erickson) know - so we can send them our best wishes and thoughts of a speedy recovery.

January 5, 2005

I hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas and an Enjoyable Holiday Season. Nancy and I went to Houston to stay warm with our family for Christmas and got snowed out. Sure was a lot warmer and nicer here than it was there. The Texicans sure enjoyed the snow – even though they couldn’t DRIVE with it on the ground. (Imagine)

Our current membership roster has 91 members listed. We gained 2 new members since our last letter: Troy & Cleadus Teeters of Shawnee, KS and Harold & Dorthea Young of Kansas City, MO. Please give them a big Twisters welcome when you see them. Several of our new members plan on attending the January dinner. We also have at least 4 new prospects for membership. With the addition of Bob & Joyce Finley of Marysville, KS - Livingston, TX as "Mom & Pop", the new members will have someone to help welcome them to the Chapter and act as a resource for them.

Our next activity is the winter dinner meeting this month. This gives us a break during the winter and lets us see our friends again and think of warmer times. Please RSVP with the host so she can plan seating arrangements. We sure hope to see each of you there.

FMCA Headquarters plans on having Chapter recruitment tables for the 73rd International Convention at Perry, Georgia. These tables will be to explain our Chapter to potential new members and advertise the Chapter. The table needs to be set up and manned for approximately 4 hours. We would like to find out who is going as we also have new members that would like to caravan with someone. If either of these interest you – please give me a call and I will try to get all the information out to everyone planning on attending.

NOTE:

Even though it seems a long ways off – we are working on the 2006 Rally Schedule. IF you have a place you would like to go – please contact Herb Little so we can start planning and reserving the areas. It is getting more difficult to find large enough areas for our Chapter and we have to make reservations a year or more in advance to assure availability.

See you in Emporia at the dinner the last weekend of this month.

December 1, 2004

The Twisters have either departed the area or are leaving as fast as possible. The rally season is over in this part of the country so almost everyone is going to Arizona, Florida or Texas. I’m sure those of us left here wish we were able to travel and see this great nation of ours also. When everyone returns we will see the new coaches, listen to all the adventures and share the experiences with our friends. We wish everyone a safe trip.

After discussion with several people I have decided to create a new appointed position. For now it will be called "NEW MEMBERS MOM & DAD". The purpose of the position is to help new members or guests meet people in the chapter and know they are welcome and part of the chapter. The Mom & Dad will make it easier for all of us as they will help make introductions and get someone in the chapter to "buddy" with new members. Bob & Joyce Finley have agreed to accept this challenge and be our first "MOM & DAD". Please assist them as they help to make our chapter a warmer, friendlier group the new members can call "home".

We wish to WELCOME the two new members – Barry Walker from Pleasanton, KS and Ray & Marilyn Leeds of Emporia, KS. We look forward to meeting them soon and seeing them at one of the 2005 rallies.

So far 19 have been dropped from the 2005 rolls leaving our chapter with 89 rigs (1 has requested to be dropped as soon as the 2005 membership expires)(We still have 4 members to pay dues – so this may change.) All have been invited to visit a future rally. The TWISTERS and other chapters are invited to set up a recruitment table at the National Convention in Perry, Georgia in March of 2005. IF you are planning on attending and would like to "help get out the word" on the Twisters, let me know. We need new members to help replace those that have decided to leave us.

Herb Little (VP/Rally Master) is working on the 2006 schedule. If you have any location you think the Twister would enjoy going to, please contact Herb.

Emporia, Golden Corral – Emporia Room (by Wal Mart) – 11:00 am Saturday - January 29, 2005 is our next scheduled activity. This will be a dinner and not a scheduled rally. There will be a brief non-business meeting about 1:30 pm. Brad & Alice Elkins will host this activity – plan on driving in to meet with your friends. Please notify the hostsif you plan on attending.

The Kansas Twister web site: (http://www.kansastwisters.net)should have information on the rallies soon. The 2005 schedule is complete and includes Hosts and contact info. This information is also listed in the Chapter Activities section of the FMCA magazine on a monthly basis.

"Thanks" to those of you that contacted Nancy during her recent episode with her heart. She is "O.K." – out of the hospital – and ready to travel again. The doctors just took precautionary measures, including hospitalization and tests.

See you at "Emporia" in January or the "Rio Grande Valley" in February – Drive Safe, have a Wonderful Holiday Season.

Sincerely,

Joe & Nancy Wright

October 22, 2004

The Twisters met at Carthage, MO (Oct 7-8-9-10) at the Coachlight RV Resort with 28 member rigs present. Everyone had a great time while playing games, eating, going to view the coaches, eating, seeing the local sights and eating(Notice a pattern here.) There was a little rain – but with a great Campground and wonderful hosts – it didn’t seem to bother anyone. We even watched a DVD of the sights and activities that took place during the Oregon Caravan.

The Twisters held their 2nd required meeting of the year. There was an election of officers with everyone remaining in office except the treasurer. Shirley Hogoboom wanted to retire so she could enjoy the rallies and just relax. Shirley has done a great job and been our treasurer since the chapter was formed. She was given a plaque and much thanks for all she has done for the chapter. She was replaced by Jan Erickson who is full of vigor (she will wear down soon)and ready for you to pay your 2005 dues, if you haven’t sent them in.

So far 11 members have requested to be dropped from the 2005 rolls. Most have left because of selling their coaches, ill health or just being unable to attend rallies with the chapter. This brings our Chapter membership to 95 rigs, and 1 has requested to be dropped as soon as the 2005 membership expires. (We still have 25 members to pay dues – so this may change.) It’s sad to say "so long" to members – but we do wish them well and hope they are able to visit a future rally.

The TWISTERS and other chapters are invited to set up a recruitment table at the National Convention in Perry, Georgia in March of 2005. There is plenty of time for us to make plans – so IF you are planning on attending and would like to "help get out the word" on the Twisters, let me know.

Herb Little (VP/Rally Master) has the 2005 schedule completed so it is time for him to start to work on 2006(No rest for the weary). If you have any ides on a location you think the Twister would enjoy going to, please contact Herb.

Emporia, Golden Corral – Emporia Room (by Wal Mart) – Saturday -January 29, 2005 is our next scheduled activity. This will be a dinner and not a scheduled rally. There will be a brief non-business meeting about 1:30 pm. Brad & Alice Elkins will host this activity – plan on driving in to meet with your friends - if possible. Please notify the hosts if you plan on attending

The Kansas Twister web site: (http://www.kansastwisters.net)has information on the rallies. The 2005 schedule is posted and includes Hosts and contact info. This information is also listed in the Chapter Activities section of the FMCA magazine on a monthly basis.

The 2004 rally year is gone. There were many GREAT places we visited as a Chapter. We met a lot of "new" people and formed wonderful friendships. New Coaches, fun times, wonderful travels are all memories from this year. Next Year -2005 – promises to be as good or better. Be sure to plan on attending, where and if possible, and RSVP – ASAP.

See you at Emporia in January or the Rio Grande in February – Drive Safe, have a Bountiful and Merry Holiday Season.

Sincerely,

Joe & Nancy Wright

September 15, 2004

The twisters met at Pomona lake last weekend (Sept 10-12) and had perfect weather, a great place to park (with Pavilion), good food and everyone seemed to have a great time.

The Twisters played snakes (you just had to be there) and had a fashion show with some old time fashions (bell bottoms) as well as the new (can-can skirts). Everyone had a great time, seemed to enjoy the show and have a lot of fun. Norma Robbins was a great host and even invited a professional laughter leader to ensure that we were happy. (Ho Ho - Ha Ha Ha) There were only 13 units present and since we didn’t have the 15 required for a meeting – we deferred all business until the October meeting at Carthage.

We wish to WELCOME the two new members – Joe & Charlotte Harris from Wichita, KS and Larry & Judy Ormsbee of Hermitage, MO. We look forward to them being at a rally soon and meeting everyone. This brings our Chapter membership to 106 rigs, but 2 have requested to be dropped and we will be deleting them from the roster as soon as this years membership expires.

Some of the TWISTERS are on the way to the 6 State Convention in Gonzales, Louisiana. The hurricane (Ivan) is heading in that general direction also. There may be some interesting tales to listen to in October after everyone returns.

Herb Little (VP/Rally Master) has the 2005 schedule completed. We need a host for September 9-11 at Dodge City, KS. Please contact Herb. The schedule will be passed out & posted in October.

Carthage – October 7-10 is our next scheduled rally. This meeting will be one of the two annual chapter meetings required by FMCA. The meeting will be held after breakfast on Saturday Morning at 10:00 am in the Coachlight RV Park meeting room. The report from the nominating committee, Election of officers, Use of chapter funds and other important chapter business will take place. If you are not attending the rally – plan on driving in for the meeting if possible. The $10.00 dues for 2005 are due by October 1st. If you joined the chapter since the 1st of July this year your dues are paid, if not – please send your dues to the treasurer or pay them in Carthage.

The Kansas Twister web site: (http://www.kansastwisters.net) has a copy of all rallies and information on the rallies. The 2005 rallies will be posted as soon as the Carthage meeting is over.

It is hard to believe – but there is only 1 more rally left for this year. The nominating committee will present a slate of Officers for election - of course nominations will also be taken from the floor. If you feel someone would make a good Officer – check with them and get their permission & commitment before nominating them. This will avoid embarrassment as new officers take over at the October meeting. Edith Leiker has a great rally planned with a fun time for all. Be sure to RSVP – ASAP.

See you at Carthage – Drive Safe,

Sincerely,

Joe & Nancy Wright

August 2004

The weather was a little rainy in the middle of the week, but turned out nice for the weekend. We had 20 coaches at the rally and 29 were present for the Chapter meeting on Saturday morning. Most are preparing to go to Colorado or Oregon at this time. Reminder for you to let Norma Robbins know if you plan on attending the Pomona rally in September.

I wish to WELCOME the three new members – Vern & Karen Oakes from Wichita, KS - Ron & Marnette Hatchett of Newton, KS and Rod & Wanda Ryel of Sedgewick, KS. This brings our membership roster to 104 units although I have received notice of at least 3 members that do not plan on renewing their membership for 2005. We sure would have a heck of a rally if we could get everyone to show at the same time – wouldn’t we.

IF YOU WANT TO PARK with the TWISTERS at the FMCA National Convention in Oregon, they will park in the full generator section. You DO NOT have to caravan with the group - just meet us at a designated location prior to entering the grounds on Sunday, August 19th. @ 1:15 pm. We have 9 rigs at this time. Let me know if you want to join us.

Herb Little (VP/Rally Master) has worked hard to line out places for 2005. The list was presented and discussed at Spring Lake. Winfield, Abilene, Louisburg, Branson, Minden, Dodge City and Coffeyville are places we will be going. Hosts are needed for some of these rallies. There will be a primary host and they can choose co-host(s) to help. Please contact Herb.

Spring Lake –The meeting was held on Saturday Morning at 10:00 am. Election of the nominating committee, changes to our standing rules and setting the 2005 rally schedule was accomplished. A discussion of additional Chairpersons took place. There may be a need for a Quarterly Newsletter Editor, Webmaster or Chapter Chaplain. Give us your ideas. Election of the officers will take place in October at the Carthage rally. A decision on the amount of funds for the treasury was delayed. This will probably be brought up again at the October meeting. October is the 2nd of the two business meetings required by FMCA.

There are only 3 more rallies left for this year. The nominating committee was elected in July with a slate of Officers to be presented and elections held in October - of course nominations will also be taken from the floor. If you feel someone would make a good Officer – check with them and get their permission & commitment before nominating them. It is also time to mention Chapter Dues as they are due by the 1st of October.

See you at the next Rally – Be Safe,

Sincerely,

Joe & Nancy Wright

July 1, 2004

For the first time I get to start off my letter with some GREAT NEWS. Shirley Hogoboom (Treasurer) just got word from her doctor that she is cancer free. She still has to build her stamina back and do exercises, but she is feeling better every day and wanted to share this news with her friends.

The Twisters manned the booth at the Hutchinson rally and signed 47 new FMCA members, 2 commercials and 2 for the Twisters. Everyone did a great job, seemed to have a lot of fun, and we appreciate it very much. We wish to WELCOME the two new members – Wayne & Bonnie McCandless from Manhattan, KS and Ron & Nancy Herberholz of Beloit, KS. We look forward to them being at a rally soon and meeting everyone.

IF YOU WANT TO PARK with the TWISTERS at the FMCA National Convention in Oregon, we plan on parking in the full generator section ($99.00). You DO NOT have to caravan with the group (although I think Loretta Marlowe has planned a great caravan) just meet us at a designated location prior to entering the grounds on Sunday, August 19th. @ 1:15 pm. We have 9 rigs at this time. Let me know if you want to join us.

Herb Little (VP/Rally Master) has worked hard to line out places for 2005. He will present a list at Spring Lake. We need hosts for these rallies. There will be a primary host & co-host(s) to help. Please contact Herb.

Spring Lake – July 9th is our next scheduled rally. This meeting will be one of the two annual meetings required by FMCA. The meeting will be held on Saturday Morning at 10:00 am in family center #1. Election of the nominating committee, Use of Chapter Funds and other important chapter business will take place. If you are not attending the rally – plan on driving in for the meeting.

The Kansas Twister web site: (http://www.kansastwisters.net)has a copy of all rallies and information on the rallies. You can read or print the information. All rallies should posted very soon. We have some past rally pictures posted, and hope to have more in the future. You will be able to download or print them also.

It is hard to believe – but there are only 4 more rallies left for this year. The nominating committee will be elected in July with a slate of Officers to be presented and elections held in October - of course nominations will also be taken from the floor. If you feel someone would make a good Officer – check with them and get their permission & commitment before nominating them. It is also time to mention Chapter Dues as they are due by the 1st of October.

See you at the next Rally – Be Safe,

Sincerely,

Joe & Nancy Wright

June 3, 2004

First – I want to welcome 2 new members to the Kansas Twisters. They are member numbers 97 and 98 and both joined June 2nd. Lawrence & Pam Noggle join us from Vinita, Oklahoma after having met some of the Twisters at the Claremore, OK International rally. They plan on being at one of the meetings soon, possibly October. Dwane &Valerie Richardson are from Eudora, Kansas. They were at the Prairie Rose rally and joined us for Sunday breakfast. They want to be at a rally as soon as possible – but do not have firm plans made yet. We look forward to meeting both couples in the near future. WELCOME to the TWISTERS.

IF YOU WANT TO PARK with the TWISTERS at the FMCA National Convention in Oregon, you need to send me your name and registration papers with a check by June 20th. We plan on parking in the full generator section ($99.00) and have to send everyone in at the same time. You DO NOT have to caravan with the group (although I think Loretta Marlowe has planned a great time)just meet us prior to entering the grounds. We have 8 rigs at this time.

Herb Little (VP/Rally Master) is lining out places for 2005. If you feel you know of a good place to have a rally or would like to get involved as a host, please contact him.

The Great North American RV Rally is in Hutchinson in June and we have 16 couples that volunteered to work the booth for FMCA. I will publish a list soon and wish to thank each and every person volunteering from the Chapter.

The reservations for Spring Lake in July are DUE NOW. This is a reminder to please RSVP with the host for planning purposes. It is never too early to make reservations for any of our 2004 rallies.

We are getting ready to leave for the June (Pineville) Rally. Hosts are Schwart’s, May’s and Sell’s. This is always a great rally and lot’s of fun on the river and time to just sit back and relax. If you are unable to attend for the week – you should be able to get in for the weekend (11-13) as there are usually camping spots available

The Kansas Twister web site: (http://www.kansastwisters.net)has a copy of all rallies and information on the rallies. You can read or print the information. All rallies except September are posted and we hope to have this in the next week or so. We have some past rally pictures posted, and hope to have more in the future. You will be able to download or print them also.

We could not wait for the rally season to start – now we are almost halfway thru the rally year. We sure do hope to see each and every one of you soon. Stay well and safe travels.

May 14, 2004

There was a great rally last weekend at Benton - Prairie Rose Chuckwagon Dinner. We had 12 rigs in attendance with another 2 families joining us for our Saturday morning meeting. The parking was limited – but everyone seemed to have a great time with plenty of food, great weather and good entertainment in the evening. The hosts, (Middleton’s and Fair’s) put in a lot of effort with a great deco art glass door prize and fun places to visit.

Herb Little (VP/Rally Master) is working on the remainder of this years schedule and lining out places for 2005. Several places have been reserved – Coffeyville, Kansas in September for the Dalton shoot out - Abilene, Kansas for a special weekend - Minden, Nebraska in August for the Pioneer Village and then on to Minden, North Dakota for the FMCA Convention. If you feel you know of a good place to have a rally or would like to get involved as a host, please contact him.

A reminder to please RSVP with the host ASAP for planning purposes for any 2004 rally.

You should have your reservation for June (Pineville) turned in. Hosts are Schwart’s, May’s and Sell’s. This is always a great rally and lot’s of fun on the river and time to just sit back and relax.

The Kansas Twister web site: (http://www.kansastwisters.net)has a copy of all rallies and information on the rallies. Go to the site, then Click on the month you want and that rally information will appear. You can read or print the information. All rallies except September and October are posted and we hope to have these two in the next week or so. We plan to have past rally pictures posted in the near future, so you can print them also.

We have a great group of people and do a lot of fun things at the rallies. We hope to see you soon.

Sincerely,

Joe & Nancy Wright

April 20, 2004

The rally season is here. Our first rally of the year was held in Bartlesville, OK and we had 29 rigs attend. The parking was tight due to the city holding up the campground construction permit – but everyone seemed to have a great time with plenty of food, places to go visit and great weather. The hosts, (Erickson and Bennett) put in a lot of effort with door prizes for all and fun activities.

Our current membership roster still stands at 98 members. We did not gain or lose any members since our last letter. The Chapter voted to change the new membership fee to $25.00. This will cover ordering name tags and the first years dues. After that the annual dues remain $10.00. This helps to eliminate confusion over ordering name tags and makes it easier for the treasurer.

Herb Little (VP/Rally Master) is working on the remainder of this years schedule and lining out places for 2005. If you feel you know of a good place to have a rally or would like to get involved as a host, please contact him at herbjanlittle@aol.com.

This year, we have several rallies where parking or electricity will be limited. RSVP with the host ASAP to assure your place. The fairest way for everyone is on a first come – first served basis. If you have a reservation-you will be guaranteed a place. We will do our best to get you the best space available. The Twisters are now listed in the FMCA magazine and may even have guests reserve from outside the chapter.

You should have your reservation for May (Prarie Rose) completed. Hosts are Middleton and Fair. Rally information for June, July and August will be sent to you soon. Watch for it and respond as soon as possible.

The Kansas Twister web site: (http://www.kansastwisters.net) will have a copy of all rallies and information on the rallies. Go to the site, then schedule-Click on the rally that has a colored heading and that rally information will appear. You can print the information and keep a copy. We hope to have past rally pictures posted soon, so you can print them also.

SPECIAL NOTE: The host for the Colorado rally is asking for you to let her know if you plan on attending and for info on what you would like to do. We are staying at a KOA and must make reservations. Call Margaret Walker if you plan on attending Buena Vista in August.

Sincerely,

Joe & Nancy Wright

The following letter was asked to be passed on to the chapter.

Last year, the ladies from the Red River Rovers (under the expert guidance of Kitty Ammenheuser and Geri Innocenti) assisted in the planning and production of the wonderful Red Hat Tea at the Six State Rally in Wichita Falls. Everyone had such a good time that the decision was made to do something special in 2004 for all of the FMCA ladies. With full approval of the "powers-to-be" ….

A Quilt Challenge is being planned for the Six State Rally in Gonzales, Louisiana in September, 2004.

The Red River Rovers would like to extend a challenge to all FMCA Rv’ers in the South Central area. Plans are for each Club to make small quilts that will be presented to the local community on Volunteer Recognition night. These quilts will be given to an area quilt guild which will distribute these quilts to area police, firemen and community agencies who in turn will give them to children in crisis situations. These quilts can be sewn, crocheted, knitted or made from fleece and tied. They should be anywhere from 42" x 42" to 54" x 54". They should be made in colors that are pleasing and happy for children. In numerous situations, children are removed from their homes with only the clothes on their backs. These quilts will be something that will, not only be comforting, but will also be something that belongs to them.

A contact has been made with the president of the local quilt guild and we have been told that there is a tremendous need for this type of support. Children in every community need extra care and attention.

All quilts made will be displayed in a "Show and Tell" area during part of the Six State Rally where everyone will enjoy looking at them. Think of the joy these quilts will bring.

Keep your eyes open for a picture and an article in the FMCA magazine in the next few months.

If you have any questions, please contact:

The rally season is almost here. As I write this letter many of the Twisters are making plans for the FMCA 71st Convention in New Mexico. If you plan on going – let me know and I will publish a list so you can meet with your Twister friends. FMCA Headquarters will have Chapter tables at the Albuquerque National Convention. (These tables will be to recruit new members and advertise the Chapter from 1-3 pm on Monday at the Tingley Coliseum on the fairgrounds). Call Edith Leiker if you would like to help.

Shirley Hogoboom is still hanging in there. She continues to talk about how much she appreciated the Letters, Cards, Phone Calls and all the Twister Family. She did request that you not send flowers, as she may have to open a flower shop soon or hire an additional person to care for them.

Our current membership roster has 98 members. We gained 2 new members since our last letter: John & Carolyn Smith of Rose Hill, Bob & Connie Unrein of Haysville. We also have at least 3 new prospects for membership. Please give them a big Twisters welcome when you see them. Looks like we will surpass the 100 rig mark soon.

The winter dinner meetings were great. We had 40 reserve for Marion, KS – 64 attended. Awards (Plaques) were given to Richard Vester, Abby Murray, Larry Schwart & Walt Bennett for their 2 years of service to the chapter. There were 26 reserved for the Texas boat ride – 32 attended – 26 reserved for the Texas dinner – 34 attended. The same award was given to Leta Morgan for her 2 years of service. One member - Walt Bennett arrived dressed in formal attire to try to get another award – but it didn’t work. Pictures of these meetings and the boat ride should be on our web site soon.

If you look at the reservations vs attendance – you see there is quite a difference. While we are able to adjust and can usually accommodate everyone – this may not always be the case. We have several rallies where parking or electricity will be limited. RSVP with the host ASAP to assure your place. The fairest way for everyone is on a first come – first served basis. Since we are now listed in the FMCA magazine – we may even have guests reserve from outside the chapter.

Remember – you only have until March 31st to renew you FMCA membership at the old prices. This is a $70.00 savings over new prices (5 yrs). See the February FMCA magazine for details.

I am attaching the revised Rally Schedule with some minor changes. I will have copies for anyone not able to open or print it. If you have trouble with this e-mail, please let me know or go to the Kansas Twister web site: (http://www.kansastwisters.net)

SPECIAL NOTE: The host for the Colorado rally is asking for you to let her know if you plan on attending and for info on what you would like to do. Call Margaret Walker if you plan on attending Buena Vista.

 January 16, 2004

I hope everyone had a great Holiday Season. Nancy and I were in Houston with our family for Christmas and then traveled to enjoy New Years in the Texas Valley with some of our Twister friends. Sure is a lot warmer and nicer there than it is here.

Shirley Hogoboom is doing well. She plans on attending the dinner next Saturday and everyone will get a chance to visit with her at that time. She told me how much she appreciated the Letters, Cards, Phone Calls and all the Twister Family.

Our current membership roster has 95 members listed. We gained 4 new members since our last letter: Ron & Sherry Barnhart of Hutchinson, Harley & Miki Dyer of Derby, Charles & Jan Evans of Emporia & R. E. & Joyce Finley of Marysville are all new members. Several plan on attending the January dinner. We also have at least 2 new prospects for membership. Please give them a big Twisters welcome when you see them. Looks like we will have 100 rigs soon.

Our winter dinner is next Saturday. This gives us a break during the winter and lets us see our friends again. Please RSVP so we can plan seating arrangements. See you there.

January 24th will be the Twisters Dinner in Kansas at the Kingfisher Inn @ Marion from 11:30 to 2:00 PM. Dinner will be $8.95 for your choice of a 3 piece chicken dinner or chicken fried steak including salad bar and potato. RSVP by Jan 21st to Barb McCurdy.

February 10th will be the Twisters Dinner in Texas at the Sirloin Stockade @ Harlingen at 2:00 PM. Dinner will be $4.95 and if you are still hungry Steak is served at 4 PM.

February 9th is a boat ride on the Rio Grande River. This will be at the riverside Inn in Mission, close to Peppi’s and only cost approximately $13.00 per person. RSVP for either or both by February 1st to Herb Little.

FMCA Headquarters plans on having Chapter tables for the Albuquerque National Convention. These tables will be to recruit new members and advertise the Chapter. The table needs to be set up and manned for approximately 4 hours. We also have new members that would like to caravan with someone. If either of these are interesting to you – please give me a call.

Remember – you only have until March 1st to renew you FMCA membership at the old prices. See the January FMCA magazine for details.

December 9, 2003

First - I apologize for being so late in with this letter. I was waiting for some information so I wouldn’t send out more than one letter about the same subject.

We are all thankful that our Treasurer Shirley Hogoboom is doing so well. She has a long difficult task ahead of her to be 100%, but we all stand behind her and know she will come through everything O.K.

The 2004 schedule is finally complete except one host position. The biggest changes you will notice is that we have tried to put an address and complete location with each rally. A detailed rally sheet will be published approximately 60 days prior to each rally. Remember the Hosts are trying to make the rally as enjoyable for you as possible – You should help & RSVP as soon as possible so they can plan the activities. Notify the host from your Chapter roster or membership book, or notify one of the Chapter Officers.

January 24thwill be the Twisters Dinner in Kansas at the Kingfisher Inn @ Marion from 11:30 to 2:00 PM. Dinner will be $8.95 for your choice of a 3 piece chicken dinner or chicken fried steak including salad bar and potato. RSVP by Jan 21st to Barb McCurdy

We currently have 90 members on our Chapter roster and 1 that said they would pay by end of December. We lost: Carl & Margaret Davis, Earl & Mary Engelbert, Mel & Gerry Gough, Kenneth & Rose Griffis, Jim & Carol Hewgley, Les & Tommi Osburn, Don & Anita Singular and Marshall & Marlene Hatfield. We wish them the best in their future travels.

We also gained 2 new members: Tom & Pam Young of Topeka, KS and Brad & Alice Elkins of Emporia, KS. A big Twisters welcome to each and we hope to see you at a rally soon.

Nancy and I are going to Houston for Christmas then on to Brownsville, TX for a short while. We plan on seeing a lot of our Twister friends and just relaxing and enjoying the season. We wish each and every one of you a Happy and Safe Christmas and New Years. Hopefully we will see you at the January dinner.

NOTE:

I am attaching the revised 2004 rally schedule. Great places & excellent hosts for next year. It sure will be good to get rid of winter and start motoring again. If you have trouble with this e-mail, please let me know.

October 22, 2003

I believe I have finally entered all the names from our Twisters roster into my e-mail address book. It was more of a chore and took longer than I thought it would so please accept my apology for being so late in sending you this information.

First, let me thank you for your confidence in electing Nancy and I as your new Presidents. We, along with all the other Officers elected will do our best during our term in office and look forward to the fellowship and great times the Twisters are noted for. We have had GREAT leadership from our past officers and only hope we are able to live up to the example they set.

I want to provide you with my address and phone number so you can reach me or leave a message. Please feel free to call me anytime.  (Address deleted by webmaster)

NOTE:

I am attaching the 2004 rally schedule. As you can see, there are still some items to be worked out, but the schedule will be updated as information comes in. Nice rallies at new places with excellent hosts are planned for next year. Also, for the first time – the Twisters are going to try to have a dinner in South Texas for the winter Texans. The Littles will be the point of contact – so if you are going south, stay in contact, and meet for a nice dinner with friends. If it works out – we may even be able to be there.

If you have trouble with this e-mail, please let me know. I will do whatever is necessary to help with our communications.

We have members that have not paid their 2004 dues that will be notified by separate letter. Our By-Laws require us to list them delinquent as of November 1st and then we are required to drop them from the roles 60 days later (January 1st). We do not want to start out the New Year with the loss of any members. Several decided that they do not want to renew for 2004. If anyone needs to pay dues, send them to The Treasurer: Shirley Hogoboom

Have a wonderful fall, an even better Holiday Season and join us for all the great rallies planned for next year.

Joe & Nancy Wright

Guthrie Rally

It’s almost time to go to our last Rally for this year that will be held in Guthrie, OK! If you haven’t sent Bill Speer your RSVP, please call him at 785-762-1837 or email at him. The Rally fee is $45 per couple or $40 per single pays for two nights camping, two breakfasts and the party room. Also bring books, movies and tapes for the entertainment swap on Friday night.

FMCA Dues

The article by Don Eversmann, “A Membership Dues Increase?” is very interesting reading in the October FMCA magazine. “If the dues increase is approved by the Governing Board in November, there will be an opportunity for you, the members, to purchase advance years at the old multiple-year rates to delay the impact of this dues increase. The one year renewal dues would immediately increase on January 1, 2004 to $35, and the new first-year member rate would increase to $45. However, from January 1 through March 31, 2004, members would be permitted to purchase advance years at the old discounted rate schedule of two years for $47.50, three years for $67.50, and five years for $100.”

This a great deal, and if you think the $10. increase is too much, please read the article beginning on page 161 “MEDEX Comes Through”.

Kansas Twister Dues

While we are discussing great deals, your Twister dues are due October 1. If you have not already paid them, please send your $10. check to Shirley Hogoboom.

The Rally schedule for 2004 is set up. I will send you a copy so you can enter the Twister Rally dates on your 2004 calendar. Another reason to get your dues paid!

Twister Election of Officers

The Nominating Committee reported the following Officer nominees at the Carthage, MO Rally: National Director, Larry Schwart, Alternate National Director, Eldon Johnson, President, Joe Wright, Vice President and Rally Master, Herb Little, Secretary, Edith Leiker, and Treasurer, Shirley Hogoboom.

I have received a notice from Leta Morgan our current National Director, that she will run for National Director as a write in candidate.

At the Guthrie Rally, we will ask for nominations from the floor for each office. The rules for a member nominating a candidate are the same as for the committee. A member should know if the person he or she wishes to nominate is both eligible and willing to serve. Voting will be by paper ballot.

www.kansastwisters.net

Have you checked out our Web page lately? Bud Fair has given the page a new look, and it is great. Check it out!

Every Twister should have:

And only $5.00 each, what a deal, check with any officer for your mugs.

Twister Shirt, buy your shirt at Walmart, Kmart, etc and have Marilyn Kauffman sew your name and Kansas Twister on it.

CHAPTER MEMBER Attachment Coach Plates-$17.50 each

Bud Fair has Twister T Shirts and a few sweat shirts for sale.

How Time Flies

It was in April 2001 that 20 some FMCA members met in Newton to discuss organizing a new FMCA Chapter in Kansas. We had 29 Charter Members and now we have grown to 96 unit members. All folks have to do is attend one of our Rallies and they are hooked. The Twister’s are a great group from all walks of life, a variety of motorhomes, a variety of ages, and on and on! But when we get together, we all have one thing in mind, a great time!

This note to the Kansas Twisters will be about the last of my duties as President before the Annual Elections at our Rally in Guthrie, Ok. I have thoroughly enjoyed serving as your President and working with the other Kansas Twister officers.

8/19/03

Although we did not have a volunteer host, the weekend Rally at Harvey County East was a great success. The weather was warm, but bearable, very little wind and a great group of Twisters. Fourteen units and two drive ins were on hand, plus we welcome Bill & LaVeta Wass and Donald & Dorothy Burrow as new Twisters from Parsons, KS. We now have 92 unit members in the Twisters!

Sunday morning, the Speer's served us biscuits and gravy. We all unanimously agreed that they should serve it at the October Rally in Guthrie, OK.

September Rally

The Joe Wright's and Herb Little's have a lot lined up for us in Carthage, MO., September 5, 6, & 7. I hope that you have already called in your RSVP, but if you haven't, do so now! You'll have a great weekend. Need to review the Rally info, go to our web site www.kansastwisters.net and you will find all the information

on this Rally plus.

7/31/03 Sorry about the long time that it took to download the last message that I sent to

I don't know why that happened.

I think that I did figure out why the download took sooooo long though. In Joe's

attachment, I changed a date from 2002 to 2003 and when I saved it, I received this

message "Word Pad cannot save this document in its current format. The document

will be converted to Rich Text format. Sooooo I changed it to Rich Text and you now

know the rest of the story. Some of your mail boxes were full so I sent it to you without

the map and pictures.

We are trying to get the Air Conditioned shelter for the Harvey County East Rally next

week.

See you there!

May 2003

May Rally

We did have a wonderful time at the May Rally in Eureka at the Horse Races.  Hogoboom's had four horses in the races on Saturday.  After betting on the first three horses that lost their races, it was great to end the day with a First place win in the last race of the day.  Yes, we did get our picture in the Winners Circle again this year with Albert & Shirley's horse.

Flower Fund

Our group brought quite a varity of items for the Flower & Card Fund auction.  Dick Hadsall and Walt Bennett did a fine job of auctioneering and the fund was increased by $375.00 from the items sold.

June Rally

The host's have a variety of activities available for the Pinveville Rally June 9th  thru the 15th.  The time is extended for this Rally because there is so much to do in the area and the week camping fee is only $80.00.  We hope most of you can attend all or part of this exciting week!

FMCA's 70th International Convention in Buffalo, New York (July 18th - 20th)

FMCA's Nominating Committee has submitted it's slate of candidates recommended for national office for the 2003-2004 term. Balloting is restricted to National Directors and National Officers.  We have asked all of our members to review the candidates' resumes begining on page 70 of the May 2003 FMCA magazine.  If you are not going to attend the Kansas Twister business meeting on Friday morning, June 13th  at Pineville, Mo., please send a note to one of the Twister  Officers and tell them who you want your vote cast for.  We will have a vote at the business meeting and the National candidates that get the most votes will be communicated to the Kansas Twister National Director, Leta Morgan who plans to attend the meetings and the convention in Buffalo.

Also in attendance, at the convention, will be Larry and Lea Schwart (they will be on the parking crew so we should get a very good spot). We also have ten other units that are going to caravan with us to the Buffalo Convention.

Dear Twisters,

We enjoyed a wonderful weekend at the Kansas State Fairgrounds last weekend. Talk about perfect weather! The Mennonite Auctions and food sales were well attended by our group of 38 units plus 5 unit guests. Between the Mennonite activities and the Kansas Cosmosphere everyone had a great weekend.

We have grown to 88 unit members now. We welcome the following new members:

Elmer & Rhoda Denning, John & Nancy Grang, Bob & Barbara McCurdy, Dean & Loleta Staver, Bob & Rochelle Stith,

Our flower and card fund is running low on funds, so we will have another fund raising auction at the May Rally at Eureka Downs.

You should have this information in another e-mail.

Our new Hospitality Chairperson for 2003 is Jan Erickson. If you will notify her of any illness or deaths, she will see to it that a card

or flower is sent.

Shirley was admitted to the Susan B. Allan hospital this morning. The intent was to do exploratory surgery - and if they found the problem, to take care of it. She went in to surgery around 1:00 PM. They found that she had adhesions around her bowels. They are, at this moment, removing the restrictions. As far as they can tell they will not have to remove a portion of the bowel. Her recovery may prevent us from, leaving on are January trip to the Southwest - her complete recovery is much more important than a few weeks basking in the warm sun. However I may change my mind if we get anymore big snow fall between now and then.

God Bless

SHIRLEY - UPDATE No. #1

Hutchinson FMCA 68th Motorhome Extravaganza

What a great week in Hutchinson at the Extravaganza. We were represented by 43 of our member units plus 3 of our members were there without there motorhomes. We had a great time at the short notice potluck dinner (we never have a shortage of food at these dinners) and enjoyed meeting several of our members who had never been to one of our rallies this year. The Speer's served wine and cheese at an open house at their beautiful new motorhome. Look forward to this kind of treatment at the next rally, six of our members purchased new motorhomes at the Hutchinson Extravaganza.

Mother Nature showed her hand and gave all of us and our FMCA family visitors an opportunity to enjoy the warm sun, gentle breezes, cool nights, clouds, some showers and a general treat of the Kansas fall weather.

We didn't let Mother Nature get the best of us and enjoyed the exhibits, seminars and entertainment. Forty-Six, (46) of our member units volunteered at either the Coffee Hour, Merchandise Booth or Trams during the Rally.  We owe them a big THANK YOU!

Membership

When we left for the Hutchinson Extravaganza, we had 82 member units! (Remember we started in April 2001 with 20 member units). At the Hutchinson Extravaganza, we had six (6) more family units join us bringing our total to eighty-eight (88) family units!! We have lost the following members to date:

Robert Adams & Anna Stetzer Sold motorhome

Bill & Barbara DeBey Motorhome destroyed by fire

Bryce & Carol Hayes Sold Motorhome & bought a yacht

B. J. & Ima Kinkaid Sold Motorhome

We don't want to lose you so, if you haven't paid your 2003 dues and joined before July 1, 2002, please send your $10.00 to Shirley Hogoboom, our Treasurer.

Officers

You re-elected your current officers except for Chapter Secretary. We welcome Edith Leiker who will take over as Secretary from Abby Murray. Abby has done a fantastic job with our Chapter minutes and is going to help Edith get started. Abby will be undergoing some serious major surgery on the 17th of October, so keep her in your prayers.

2003 Rallies

The August 8, 9, & 10th Rally at the Harvey County East Campground (East of Newton, KS) needs hosts. Please get a friend or one of your new Twister friends and volunteer to be a host. Call our Rally Master & VP, Larry Schwart for any further information that you may need. Just keep it simple and fun!!! We will send out the 2003 Rally schedule to everyone that has paid their dues in the near future.

Dear Twister Volunteers,

Saying "Thank you" to such a great group of people seems very inadequate to say the least.  Carol and I received a very nice plaque for our part as Captains of the Coffee Hour Volunteers.  The plaque should have read "Thank you Kansas Twisters".

Our other Captains, Phil & Marilyn Kauffman and Albert & Shirley Hogoboom, did a great job taking care of the Merchandise Booth and the Trams as well as helped me with Coffee Hour.  I was impressed every morning when you all showed up to do your part at the Coffee Hour and some of you also worked at the Merchandise Booth and rode the Trams the same day.

One of our couples worked Coffee Hour in the morning and that evening from 6 to 10 p.m. rode the Trams, another new member handed me his application to join the Twisters and 20 minutes later was a volunteer on the Trams.  We have many stories of your willingness to help out and do more than your part to make our FMCA family members visit to Kansas a great and memorable experience.

We are very proud to be associated with such a Great Group as the Kansas Twisters!

Sincerely,

Richard & Carol Vester

9/22/02

Twister Volunteers,

If you plan to meet me at K Mart (30th & Lorraine) ready to leave at 2 p.m. on September 27th to caravan to the Fair Grounds, would you let me know so I can get an idea of how many to expect.  Also, coffee hour volunteers should have a battery or manual operated alarm clock to awaken them so they can arrive at their post early on Oct. 1, 2, & 3.

Thanks,

RHV

Kansas Twister Volunteers,

Dear Twister Hutchinson Volunteers,

I received my volunteer packet from FMCA with my volunteer ribbons etc. in Saturday's mail.

I hope you did also. The attachment is a list of the Volunteer Assignments that may not agree with the back of the letter you received from Jerry Yeatts. Please use the attached list as your assignment.

If you have questions, please check with your Captains. We will discuss where & when we are going to meet to go into the Fair grounds on the 27th of September at the Grove, OK Rally this weekend. Your letter stated that if you want to Park with the Kansas Twister Volunteers, you have to go in together!!

Getting us all lined up (about 44 motorhomes) at one time is probably not feasible. I'm thinking of setting 2 times to meet on the 27th to go in and who ever is there will park together. We'll get some suggestions this weekend.

8/14/02

Twisters,

We had a great Rally at the lake at Council Grove with 25 units in attendance. The weather was near perfect and we enjoyed the tour of the Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve, shopping, visiting, and eating. We welcome new member Norma Robbins #79!

Our nominating committee (Shirley Hogoboom, Chairman; Walter Bennett; Dick Hadsall; Ken Claycamp; and Bob Morgan met on July 25th to discuss the nomination of our officers for 2003. The offices to be filled are: President, Vice President & Rally Master, Secretary, Treasurer, National Director and Alternate National Director. If you are interested in any of these positions, or know of someone that the committee should visit with, please let Shirley know so she can bring it to the committee. We will have nominations from the committee and from the floor at the September Rally! Ballots will be emailed to those of us with email and snail mailed to those who don't to be returned to Shirley and the Counting Committee, Walter Bennett, Dick Hadsall, Ken Claycamp, and Bob Morgan with the new officers to be installed at the October FMCA International Extravaganza in Hutchinson, October 1-3.

September Rally: This info has already been sent to you or it is also posted on the Twisters Website www.kansastwisters.net . The hosts need to have your RSVP by August 16th!!!!

If you are receiving this info and know of someone with out email, please call them and read it to them.

Thanks,

RHV

P. S. More info later for the volunteers at Hutchinson. See you in Grove in September!

7/24/02

Twister Volunteers:

We will be sending your name in to FMCA by August 1, 2002 so that you will receive the volunteer packet and parking instructions.

All volunteers must pre-register for this event. If you have not registered please register ASAP either by email or telephone or mail in the registration form.

Your assignments etc. will follow as soon as we get everything completed....

By the way, we were asked to have 20 people for the Trams, and we said OK.
With this additional opportunity for your chapter, we will have a total of 82 Kansas Twister Volunteers. That should say something about what a great group of people we have as members.

Thank you Twisters!!!

Kansas Twisters:

We returned yesterday from a great rally at Osceola, Iowa at the Lakeside Resort & Casino. We had almost perfect weather, a little wind out of the north, but cool. We enjoyed our visit to John Wayne's birthplace and the Bridges of Madison County. The group had lunch together at "Cooking from the Heart", in Winterset. Most of the group went on the "Early morning Cruise" on Sunday morning.

We also had some winners in the group that included 22 units, 39 members and 6 or 8 guests.

We have two new members bringing our total to 72 unit members as of today and a couple pending.

We welcome: Don & Punky Hildenbrand, Don & Oma Hearlson.

Have you checked out the Web Site yet? www.kansastwisters.net The July and September Rally schedules are there and August will be up soon. Keep an eye on our Web Site.

If you have ever had a problem with your awning due to wind while traveling, check out www.awningsaver.com or call 1-817-312-6911 for the information. I purchased one in February and the peace of mind is great! (I realize that we are supposed to stop if it is windy, however if we did that we would never get to go anywhere.)

I have available the FMCA Kansas Twister Attachment Plates for Chapter Members. The price is $17.50 each or two for $35.00.

Have a great time at the July Rally and we will see you at the August Rally.

Loretta Marlowe offered to let us stay overnight at her acreage in Linwood, KS either going or coming back from the Rally.  If you plan to do so, please contact Loretta.  I am enclosing maps for those of you that are getting this by land mail.  Maybe Loretta can email anyone else that might need a map.

Bring your cash and good luck!!!!

June 2002

Kansas Twisters

Several of you have asked about filling out the reservation form for the FMCA 68th Premier International Motorhome Extravaganza in Hutchinson on October 1, 2, & 3, 2002.  I was told that we should just register as we would normally do and "volunteers" should be parked together and "if" you go in together you would be parked together.

With the above in mind, I am sending my Registration Form in with all the "normal" information on it plus, I am inserting just below (Check Preference) Coffee Hour/Merchandise Booth  Volunteer "Kansas Twisters".  This should not harm anything and we will see if it makes any difference.

We (Merchandise Chairman and Coffee Chairman) have not been contacted yet about our duties at our respective stations.  As soon as we know something, we can tell those of you that have volunteered.

I anticipate that we will caravan in together as "Volunteers of Kansas Twisters" and be parked together.

Those folks who are not able to volunteer at this time will park together as the "Kansas Twisters" if they go in together.  However, the Registration Form indicates that families must arrive at the convention site on the date stated on their "date of entry" credentials.

Are you as confused as I am now?   I'm sure that we can adjust to what ever they give us and enjoy the fellowship and the convention.

We had a great Rally at Eureka in May with our host's horse winning the Third Race and us some money.  It was a great weekend and our host's royally entertained us.

Next week we are heading for the Kansas Twister Rally in Osceola, Iowa.   We anticipate that we will have wonderful wheather and hope that those who participate in the activities of the facility will leave with more funds than they started with.

The July Rally information has been sent to you and you need to send in your reservation ASAP.

April 2002

Abilene Rally

If you missed our Rally in Abilene, you missed a great time.  We had nearly perfect weather, 38 unit members, 75 people and lots to do.  We had a delicious finger food pot luck on Thursday evening, donuts, juice and coffee each morning, a bountiful pot luck Friday evening where several door prizes were given in a drawing, Saturday evening delicious Brookville Hotel fried chicken and all the trimmings and then a white elephant auction to raise money for the card and flower fund.  Rallies are no time to be on a diet!  Several visited the Seeley mansion, the Eisenhower Museum and of course Russell Stover Candy factory.

Membership

Our membership has grown from 20 unit members in April 2001 to 69 unit members as of April 13th!  We enjoyed meeting several of our newest members in Abilene and even signed up 4 at the Rally.

Profile Directory

Loretta Marlowe has been working diligently getting the Profile Directory book and CD-R put together since January.  We sold 20 directories and several CD-R's at Abilene.  These directories have all of our profiles with our pictures in them.  Those of you that purchased the directories need to make some corrections – contact Loretta. Check with Loretta is you are interested in a CD-R or booklet.  CD-R's are $1.00 and the directories are currently $12.00 each. Additions will be $.15 per page and CD-R's will be exchanged to give you the updated information.  If you have questions, call or email Loretta.

Flower and Card Fund

We had a white elephant auction at the Abilene Rally to raise money for a flower and card fund.

If you know a Kansas Twister that is ill or in the hospital, please call or email Sharon Ailslieger.  If you don't get a card or flower, it is because Sharon was not notified of your circumstances.

Medex

I have mentioned several times about the importance of the Medex Plus Program that is a free benefit of belonging to FMCA.  The January FMCA magazine on page 209 has the article that explains the benefits of this great program.  Please cut out the Medex Cards in the February issue on page 21.  You can have these laminated to carry in your wallets. No card, no benefit!

May Rally

Please note on the Revised Kansas Twister Rally schedule that the dates for the May Rally have changed.  The new dates are May 17, 18, & 19th at Eureka, Kansas.  Our group has grown so much that we could not get everyone in on the opening weekend along with the regular horse race fans.

2003 Rallies

Larry Schwart, our Vice President and Rally Master, is booking our 2003 Rallies now.  Because of the rapid growth of our Chapter, it is even more important for him to book early.  Will you help Larry out?  Get a Twister friend or 2 or 3 and plan a Rally in your area or at some other city, lake or campground that will handle 30 to 50 units.  We want you to keep it as simple and fun as you can.  If the group is large, we can visit interesting sites on our own rather than all of us together.  It will work and you will have a great time planning and working with the great group of members that we have.

FMCA 68th Extravaganza in Hutchinson

Many of you have answered my call for help at the Hutchinson Convention in October.  We have had some changes in our assignment.  We still will have the FMCA Merchandise Booth and now have the opportunity to serve the morning coffee each day (3) from 6 A.M. to 9 A.M. and will require 30 volunteers per day.  I think that we can handle this, since it will be a great opportunity to meet a lot of FMCAer's from all over the country.  So we have to get up a little early, it is only for 3 days!                   RHV

1-30-02

Dear Twisters:

Our Chapter has volunteered to work at the FMCA Merchandise Booth during the FMCA International Convention in Hutchinson, Kansas October 1-3, 2002.

Our chapter has grown to 56 member units to date and several of you have told me that you want to help at the October convention.

We are considering adding Non-Technical Seminars to our assignment which will take about 30 more people.

Please let me know, ASAP if you will volunteer, even though you may have already told me in the past. As volunteers, we will all probably park together if we go in together. The Kansas State Fair Grounds will only have 300 full hook-ups, so we will probably dry camp. We just do not know at this time. Full hook-ups will also probably cost more when you register.

We don't want anyone to have to work the whole convention so our decision on the new assignment will depend on the response that I get from this note to you.

Richard

Kansas Twisters FMCA

January 2002

Dear Twisters:

For those of you who are in the South basking in the sun, we are enjoying sunny days with gentle northern or southern breezes and no snow so far, but we would gladly welcome any kind of moisture.

We had 20 member couples and 2 guest couples at our after Holiday lunch in Yoder on January 12th.  One of the guest couples is now a member of the Twisters.  Speaking of members, we now have 53 paid unit members at this writing.  We are definitely a growing group and this year should prove to be a lot of fun.

David and Loretta Marlowe are working on our member profile book.  Our plan at this time, is to make copies of everyone's profile and picture on CD's for everyone with computers and hard copies for those of you who don't.  We haven't determined what the charge, if any, will be for your copy.  With that in mind, Loretta needs your profile and a picture of you in front of your motor home for our records.  If Loretta contacts you for information or a picture, please help her out and respond ASAP.

We all received our Annual FMCA Membership Directory in January.  I would like to ask you to review the Member Benefits and check out page 209 for the MEDEX program and benefit cards, what a great deal that is included in our dues!

With this note to you members, I am also going to attach the following:

                                                            1.         List of current members

                                                            2.         Chapter Bylaws

                                                            3.         Rally Dates for 2002

Please note on the Rallies, Larry Schwart needs help for the August Rally.  We have 53 Unit members now and only 8 have volunteered to be a host.  Hosts are asked to just keep it simple and fun!!  Think about it, get another member and help Larry out in August.

We hope that you are all well or getting your good health back, get everything repaired or patched up so you can join us at our 2002 Rallies.  April will be here before we know it and our hosts are getting the plans finalized for a great time.

Richard

1-8-02  Dear Twisters:

The response to our after Holiday Lunch has been overwhelming!

I contacted the Hostess at the Carriage Crossing and she will try to seat us together but no guarantee. We should have about 40 people there, so if you can arrive early it should be helpful for the seating arrangement.  Also, we will have some of our new members there, so wear a nametag if at all possible.  Looking forward to seeing everyone Saturday at:  Carriage Crossing Restaurant (Yoder, KS)

11:30 AM (Please arrive early)

Richard

October 2001

A great Fall Rally was held October 12-14 at Harvey County West Park. Our hosts, Larry and Lea Schwart ordered wonderful weather for the 17 units and 2 drive ins present. We enjoyed the surprise dinner and were entertained with crafts and games.

We now have 47 unit members and several interested in becoming members. The chapter just keeps getting better and better. I am enclosing a copy of the current membership. We are trying to find the most economical route to take to get a directory to our members. The cost of printing in color is quite high, so we are checking into other sources.

Several of you have asked about the MEDEX Plus Program that is provided automatically to FMCA Members since January 2001. The January 2001 Annual FMCA Membership Directory contains this information starting on page 198. This is a great benefit!

Since December is a very busy time of the year and getting a place to meet for lunch or dinner is almost impossible, we are strongly considering getting together for Holiday lunch on a Saturday in January. If you are interested in joining us, please let me know so I can contact you about where and when.

We have ordered 24 Chapter Attachment plates. These plates hold your FMCA goose egg and lets others know that you are a member of the Kansas Twister Chapter. These plates can be ordered for $17.50 each or 2 for $35.00. Let me know if you are interested.

Also, if you haven’t already ordered a name tag and want one, please check with Abby. They are only $7.50 each, a great buy.

Please mark your calendars for our Rally dates for 2002. These are the dated and places, more information will be available as the time draws nearer about each Rally.

April 12, 13, & 14, 2002 Abilene, Kansas
May 3, 4, & 5 Eureka, Kansas
June 14, 15, 16 Oscelola, Iowa

August 9, 10, & 11 Council Grove, Kansas
September 6, 7, & 8 Grove, Oklahoma
October 1, 2, & 3 FMCA National, Hutchinson, Kansas

We’ll be in touch as more information becomes available.
